I Mother Earth signed with EMI Music Canada and Capitol Records in 1992. Following the releases of Dig in 1993 and Scenery and Fish in 1996, the agreement between the labels and IME expired in early 1997. In 2001, without permission from the band, EMI released Earth, Sky, and Everything in Between.

I Mother Earth was signed to Mercury Records in 1999. In December 1999 Polygram and all of its subsidiaries, including Mercury, became part of Universal Music Group. Blue Green Orange was released under the Mercury label, whereas the Quicksilver Meat Dreams was released by Universal Music Canada.

Universal dropped IME towards the end of 2003.
